Rotorua Museum Trip

On Thursday 19th March the Accelerate Academy went to the Rotorua Museum to learn about Earthquakes and Volcanoes for our earth science topic this term.

Room 1 And 2 went down to the museum on buses then George (our host) took us upstairs (which use to be a clubroom until 1990) to the classroom which had a projector and screen and he showed us the scientific and Maori legend of why Mt. Tarawera erupted.

Then they showed us a funny video of Ngatiroirangi and how he called to his sister at Hawaiki and she sent fire taniwha's to bring warmth to Ngatiroirangi but they didn't get to him in time to save his friends. The other movie we saw was a better version of Mt. Tarawera erupting and why it erupted, The seats rocked while the mountain was erupting it was fun but pretty scary for some.

We walked up heaps of stairs to the roof and stood on the platform and looked over Rotorua. We took pictures. It was really hot in the Museum so it was nice and cool up on the roof.

Then, we went down to the dark scary basement. It's so hot down there. There were stories of a ghost and lovers down in the basement then as you go round the corner there's a man sitting in bath of mud but luckily it was fake. There was a boiler down there with the movie from the cinema of rocking seats inside. Celene and I liked scaring people when they looked inside, It was funny.

There was a part of the museum where they had an exhibit of the Mt.Tarawera and we got a sheet of questions and we had to go around in pairs finding the answers.

Everyone enjoyed the experience of learning about Volcanoes, We all learnt a lot.
